I marvel at how much growth is in the tip of a vegetable vine. Whether it be pumpkins, squash or cucumbers. All that potential growth bundled into a little ball.
The image above is the tip of a cucumber vine.
I’ve got a ton of photos of my Square Foot Gardening experiment this year. More to come.

I love your detailed awareness of the beautiful plants that feed us, either with nourishing food, or nourishing Beauty. I was caring for a friend’s garden while he was away. He had planted squash between his rows of corn and asked me to keep an eye on the squash so those rascally vines wouldn’t use the cornstalks for support. Of course they did…so I very carefully unwound the squash vines and here’s what I noticed: the squash vines would vine around the stalks in one direction for five or six wraps and then REVERSE direction for five or six wraps and reverse again. They all did this same dance!!!
Lauren,
It’s amazing the personality plants can have such as ‘rascally’ vines. It’s encouraging to hear from someone so in touch with nature to notice how the vines grow up the corn. Those tendrils are quite tenacious once they grab hold, I try to get them before they grab too tight on my cucumbers and watermelons so I don’t have to break them.
