Cats in Front of Wood Stove

First Fire of Season

About an hour ago, I started the first fire of the season in the wood stove. It’s October 14th and overcast, 53°F, and starting to rain.

While it’s 63°F inside the house, and a sweatshirt takes the chill off, it’s cold to me.

After lighting, I walked into the room with the stove and noticed the cats started to congregate.

I keep a knee pad next to the stove, and the cats put it to good use. The knee pad is too warm to sleep on once the stove gets going.

Minne (Cow pattern) and Phoebe (Black) are thrilled about the arrival of wood stove season.

The temperature at my desk is now 71°F, and the room with the wood stove is 77°F.

That’ll do.

I have mine going today too. The long heating season begins!

I look forward to it. Life has a slower pace in the winter.

I love the beauty of your wood burning stove. Now with air pollution and fire hazards, what I really miss is the smell of burning leaves in the Fall. Those childhood memories are the best! Another passing thought, I find it amazing that I can work outside in a sleeveless shirt at 63 degrees (if the sun is shining) but 63 degrees indoors is cold and in the middle of winter 63 degrees is shorts and tank top weather.

It does depend on the situation. I get the room with the stove up to the 70’s in the winter but if the room with the stove is inthe 70’s in the summer I turn the air conditioner on. Don’t you love the days you have to wear a sweatshirt in the shade and then take it off in the sun!
