Yesterday I spotted the first flower on my Sugar Snap Peas in my Square Foot Garden. I can’t wait to try them out!
After some quick reading on the Burpee website I realized I made a few mistakes on my first try with Sugar Snap Peas.
First, I should have staggered two to three planting times 7-10 days apart to extend the harvest.
Second, I should have given the plants support. Sugar Snap Peas grow six feet tall. Looks like my peas are going to turn into a groundcover.
I’m looking forward to trying Sugar Snap Peas soon.

I planted Super Snappy peas around the first of May – nothing, then planted around the end of May – nothing. Bought new seed, Alaska, and planted last week end, they are just coming up. Before I threw out the Super Snappy peas I put the last few in a damp paper towel and stored in a zip lock back. Opened it today and all but two germinated, so stuck them in along with the Alaska, which are shelling peas. I think I will be able to tell the difference! So much for planting peas in cool weather, it just causes them to rot.
That’s odd Kay. I had such good luck with Peas I planted in mid-April. I’m curioushow the peas do over the heat of the summer.
Very cool June so far – 40’s at night and upper 60’s to low 70’s during the day and a lot of clouds. GREAT working weather!!
We’re having off and on showers and downpours all week. Great planting weather. I’ve had enough though.
